The attack on the Capitol building on January 6th was one of the darkest days in our Nation’s history. As professional lobbyists, we know this building and many of the people who work in it. Their lives were threatened by an armed mob of domestic terrorists who also harmed law enforcement personnel and damaged property. Our Nation’s Founders set up a representative government based on a Constitution and a body of laws that has been a beacon of freedom and opportunity to the world for almost 250 years. When we are in the Capitol and its adjacent buildings, we are using one of the most precious freedoms guaranteed to all Americans: the right of speak freely to those whom the people of this great country have elected to represent them. The thugs who entered the Capitol on January 6th were not exercising that previous freedom. They used violence to overthrow our system of government, incited by politicians who used lies for their own political gain. As a firm, we believe in our Nation’s system of government, and we must speak up when we see others committed to undermining that system. The United States of America the longest democratic republic with a written constitution in the history of the world. Those who do not respect our system, be they elected officials or private citizens, must be soundly condemned.
